CRS
celebrates 15 years in vision science!
Cambridge Research Systems (CRS) is proud to announce that
2004 marks its 15th anniversary year. We would like to take
this opportunity to thank all our customers, OEMs and partners
for their support over the last 15 years.
Background: CRS was founded by Professor John Robson FRS
and his son, Tom Robson, to design and manufacture equipment
for vision scientists. Now the market leader in this field,
CRS remains dedicated to scientific and technical excellence
in our growing range of solutions for both basic and clinical
research.
Keep an eye on this news page for information about new
visual stimulator, eye tracking and visual tests that will
be launched during 2004.

- FaceLAB 4 launch at ECVP
Cambridge Research Systems are excited
to participate in the launch of FaceLAB
4 at the European Congress
on Visual Perception in Budapest, Hungary. This is the
latest evolution of an innovative head and gaze tracking
system from
Seeing
Machines. This new version incorporates
many new features that make it an ideal choice for behavioural
monitoring in Vision Science.
FaceLAB
4: augmenting its highly accurate 6 Degrees of Freedom head
tracking, the new camera configuration makes high resolution
eye tracking feasible. The video tracking technology makes the
system completely remote, allowing free head movement within
a 500 x 600 mm space whilst measuring head rotation to ±1°
accuracy and translation to ±1 mm. FaceLAB
4 now measures eye rotation with a resolution of up to 1°.
Originally developed for the automotive industry, we can see
numerous application for the technology in Visual Science. The
latest version has been especially configured to not only operate
on adults, but also with young infants. FaceLAB
4 is the ideal choice where the precision of conventional
eye tracking is less important than the ease of use and setup.
Suitable applications include: behavioral and fixation monitoring,
forced choice preferential looking, electrophysiology, vestibular
research and many more.
Come and see the remarkable FaceLAB
4 system at ECVP: we will
be demonstrating FaceLAB integrated with the latest ViSaGe
visual stimulator in a Preferential Looking application.

- Congratulations: Professor John Robson FRS
Everyone at CRS is extremely pleased to
congratulate our co-founder and long time
collaborator, Professor John Robson on his
election as a Fellow of the Royal Society. The
Royal Society is the oldest and possibly the most
prestigious scientific academy in the world. John
joins an alumnus that includes the greatest names
in science in the last 400 years. John's
distinguished career has included significant
contributions to so many different aspects of
Visual Science that they are too numerous to
list. These have ranged from ground breaking work
in characterizing the visual system using system
analysis, through innovative clinical tests, to
solving basic problems of retinal physiology.
However the one cohesive strand which runs
through his career has been his careful and
innovative approach to techniques and
methodology, which has benefited not only his
many collaborators but also Vision Science as a
whole. John's election recognizes a truly
original contribution to the field. See
here for more details.
