BOLDscreen 3D is a high definition LED LCD monitor which is designed to display dichoptic visual stimuli for stereoscopic and binocular vision experiments using fMRI.

BOLDscreen 3D is a high definition LED LCD monitor which is designed to display dichoptic visual stimuli for stereoscopic and binocular vision experiments using fMRI. We use the very latest FPR technology to deliver bright, flicker free dichoptic stimuli to an experiment observer wearing lightweight, MR Safe, passively polarised glasses. When the glasses are not worn, the monitor operates as a standard 2D display. BOLDscreen 3D is also suitable for use as a patient entertainment system during routine clinical MRI scanning sessions: now you can deliver a real wow factor with 3D movies.

BOLDscreen 3D is safe to install anywhere inside the scanner room, even directly at the exit of the magnet bore, and its images can be viewed using headcoil mounted mirrors or enjoyed straight on. Our in-the-room approach is significantly easier to setup and calibrate than a projector, zoom lens and screen and is a considerably more cost effective choice than a binocular goggle system. 

Other MR Safe LCD monitors sold for patient entertainment in clinical MRI typically use TV technology which deliberately interpolates the input and introduces lag, producing an image which may look easy on the eye, but is unsynchronised and smeared with respect to the input, and therefore of limited use for scientific applications. Our custom electronics deliver your stimulus direct to the screen, so that what you put in, is what you get out! 

  • 23” 1920x1080 full colour TN LCD with 60Hz panel drive.
  • A perfect size for a whole body MRI bore.
  • No internal video scan conversion means that the light output is lag-free and completely synchronous to the input video signal.
  • Supports 16.7M colours (6-bit with FRC), 1000:1 typical contrast ratio and a 5ms average Grey-To-Grey response time.

  • Internal, real-time backlight calibration ensures stability and a constant luminance over time.
  • Images can be viewed flipped and inverted to cope with different viewing optics arrangements.
  • Digital DVI video input delivers high fidelity, noise free displays.
  • All aluminium enclosure provides MR Safe shielding and passive cooling.
  • Bespoke low voltage DC power supply is safe to install inside the scanner room outside the high field area.
  • 20m fibre optic cable between the Control Room host computer and the DVI video input guarantees artefact free scans.
  • MR Safe tripod included. Optional wheeled trolley coming soon.
  • VESA MIS-F mounting points enable fixed installation on the wall at the rear of the scanner or a simple way for other custom mounts to be made.
