CRS Colour Group Travel Award

Cambridge Research Systems Colour Group Travel Award

This Award is being sponsored by Cambridge Research Systems. Applications for the Award are administered by the Colour Group (Great Britain), who will also select the awardee.

The goal of the Cambridge Research Systems (CRS) Award is to encourage a student or young researcher to present their work at a national or international meeting, and to benefit from interaction with the international colour vision community. Applications must be substantially related to the subject of basic colour vision research. The award is intended as a contribution toward the costs of travel and subsistence, not to pay the meeting registration fee. The CRS Award will be made once every year with a maximum award to any applicant of £500. An applicant must reside in the UK and be registered as a post-graduate student or a postdoctoral research fellow at a UK university or College of Higher Education. There is no restriction on the nationality, ethnic origin, age, gender or religion of applicants. No more than two applications will be accepted from the same supervisor. An applicant who submits a successful application in one year may not submit an application for any Colour Group Award (Palmer, Wright or Cambridge Research Systems) in the following year.

Officers and Committee members of the Colour Group are not eligible for any award. The application deadline is set as the 5th April with the aim of formal announcement of successful applicants at the Colour Group AGM in May. Each applicant is asked to submit an application form, which includes a minimum of a 300 word abstract of the intended presentation, a 2-page research summary, a CV and a justification for requesting the award. The application process is competitive. Only one application will be successful.

The recipient is asked to include the CRS and the Colour Group logo on each slide or Poster used in their presentation. The recipient is asked to write a report of the conference they attend which may be placed on the websites of Cambridge Research Systems and The Colour Group (Great Britain). The recipient of an award is asked to make a presentation at a forthcoming Colour Group Meeting, which will usually be the annual vision meeting held in January. He/she is also asked to provide a copy of the conference presentation or poster (e.g. PDF of a PowerPoint file) and a version of the paper submitted to the conference proceedings. These will be posted on the Colour Group and CRS websites, linked to the award details, and an abstract published in the Colour Group Newsletter.

Recipients of awards, who are not members of the Colour Group, are offered one year's free membership. The applicant's supervisor/institution must confirm in a separate email that the applicant is registered at the stated university/college in the UK.

To apply, please complete all sections of the application form and email it as an attachment to: Dr Michael R Pointer at: mrpointer@btinternet.com

Closing dates for the next round of awards: FRIDAY 5 April 2013

Fight for Sight Fundraising 2012

Each year, we set ourselves a target to ensure fundraising is one of our business objectives to support Fight for Sight. Cambridge Research Systems have worked in the Vision Science community for many years and we understand the challenges many universities face with fewer funding/grants being made available; that is why Fight for Sight is our preferred charity. Fight for Sight is the main charity in the UK dedicated to funding eye research and relies entirely on the generosity of its supporters to support this vital eye research. The scientific innovations they're funding will help make sight loss a thing of the past.

Here at Cambridge Research Systems we take part in events, and create our own organised events to raise funds for this great cause. At Christmas 2012, we urged our customers and staff to go online and for each unique click we donated £1 to Fight for Sight. With their help we achieved our target of £2012.

Thank you very much to everyone who helped us support Fight for Sight.

BOLDscreen Launch

Other displays used for patient entertainment in clinical fMRI typically use TV technology which deliberately interpolates the input and introduces lag, producing an image which may look easy on the eye, but is unsynchronised and smeared with respect to the input, and therefore of limited use for precision scientific applications.

BOLDscreen's custom electronics delivers your input direct to the screen, so that what you put in is what you get out! Click to read more>>
